KCWA History

KCWA was started in 1972 by Rev. Bishop Tharayil, with the aim of community building based on Christian values. Faith, heritage, and maternal testimony were the motto of this organization. With Mother Mary as our heavenly intercessor, KCWA aimed at the uplifting of Knanaya women in every walk of life.

Sr. Savio SVM gave all the guidance with her inherent brilliance. With Smt. Leelamma Makil as the first president and Smt. Elizabeth John Moolakkatt as secretary, the organization had its vibrant kickstart.

Unit of St. Kuriakose Church, Kakkanad KCWA had its auspicious beginning on the 31st of January 2010, The then vicar Fr. Jibin Kuzhivelil led the team of office bearers with Sr. Lucina SVM as the advisor. The office bearers of this dynamic team were Ms. Annamma John Tharayilj as president, Ms. Lissy Thomas as secretary and Ms. Subha Abraham as treasurer.

Smt. Annamma Lohn was elected as The Piravom Forane president, Kottayam Arch Diocese KCWA Vice president (2015-17), International Mathruvedi senate member etc.

Smt. Lincy Rajan was elected as the president of KCWA for the period 2021-23.

Services

KCWA wholeheartedly cooperated with the construction of our church at Kakkanad by contributing a sum for the construction of Vemma.

Scripture and Psalms Writing competitions, complete Bible reading, Mother Theresa Pilgrimage, Consecration of the picture of the divine mercy, Wednesday prayer group formation, ‘Sunday Star’ program initiation, DMC group formation, catechism teaching etc. were the main engagements of the association.

Moreover in 2022, the annual feast of the church was undertaken by the KCWA unit. Over and everything above, two houses which were in dilapidated condition after the floods were repaired and reinstated with the help of all the unit members.

Cultural Events

In competition held at Arch Diocese level, our associates could accomplish first and second places for items such as Devalaya geetham, Purathana pattu, quiz, elocution, Knanaya Manka, Knanaya bride etc. Our members participated in dance, skit, jubilee dance and rally.

Leadership skill development seminars/ classes

Family life sanctification, upbringing of our children in the changing social scenario, awareness about drug addiction etc. were the subjects of classes held by Ms. Kochurani Joseph, Sr. Mercyfius and Sr. Navya (CBCI Women’s commissioner, Delhi)

Sources of income

Christmas sales, contribution of KCWA members and other members of our parish are the income for the association.
